Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The tiniest patients at Bayshore Medical Center are cared for in our 14-bed, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU offers the highly specialized care that underweight or sick babies require in comforting surroundings.

Call 713-359-2900 for information about our services.

Our board-certified neonatologists work with neonatal nurse practitioners that staff the unit 24 hours a day. NICU registered nurses monitor and care for each the baby in the unit. Babies who may need NICU care include:

  • Premature infants
  • Infants with respiratory problems
  • Infants with infectious diseases
  • Infants with nutritional deficits
  • Infants who need observation for temporary problems that follow delivery

The family-centered unit encourages skin-to-skin contact between baby and parent during the infant’s hospitalization. A lactation consultant is available to help mothers who wish to breastfeed their baby.
