With more than 2,500 babies born at the Bayshore Medical Center each year, it’s clear the health and safety of mother and infant is our top priority.

The certified nurse-midwives who practice within our Women’s Care Center network specialize in the wellbeing of women during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. Midwives provide prenatal nutrition counseling, labor coaching and delivery support, breastfeeding assistance, and postpartum care. Women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy may be referred to Bayshore Medical Center for care.

Studies have shown that women who deliver babies with a midwife experience shorter labor, less need for pain medication, lower possibility of C-section, and lower chance of needing forceps or other devices during the birth.

Prenatal care is performed at our satellite offices, while active labor and delivery occurs at the Bayshore Medical Center.

While we work hard to follow your birth plan, occasionally unexpected events occur. Bayshore Medical Center has everything in place to assist you quickly, including obstetricians and anesthesia services available 24/7. We also have on operating room reserved for C-sections.

In the event of more serious problems, our neonatology staff is ready to assist. Our Level II and Level III neonatal intensive care nursery is fully equipped to meet all of your baby’s needs.
