While in the USAF, she held a variety of positions in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery and the Emergency Room. Leanne became a Labor & Delivery charge nurse at Shands Jacksonville and worked there 5 years before returning to school to become a midwife.
Working with midwives in the USAF and at Shands (and also delivering her 3 boys with a midwife) made her desire to become one herself. She graduated with her Masters in Nursing Midwifery from the University of Florida in 1991. She received the Hilliard Nurse Midwifery Award at graduation. Her first midwifery position was in St.Mary's Georgia as part of a midwife/physician private practice. She moved to Texas with her family in 2007 and worked as a midwife at UTMB Birth Center. Melissa J. White is a Certified Nurse Midwife who obtained her Masters of Nurse Midwifery from the University of Cincinnati in 2010. Prior to that, Melissa worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse after obtaining her Bachelors of Nursing from West Virginia University in 1999. Melissa worked as a labor and delivery nurse in many states and obtained a wide variety of experience as a traveling nurse. She then settled here in Texas and began working towards becoming a midwife. She became a mom herself during that time and enjoys spending her free time with her son. Melissa also enjoys sewing, camping and spending time with friends when she is not caring for patients.
Melissa has a wide variety of experience as a midwife as she has attended deliveries at patient's homes, in a free standing birth center and in the hospital setting. Melissa is currently attending deliveries at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena, Texas where she has been on staff since 2012. She believes that women should be able to receive evidence based care in any setting, receive the information that they need to make informed choices and feel comfortable asking questions. The health of a family is directly related to the health of the mother, therefore Melissa feels providing excellent healthcare to women translates to improved healthcare for the whole family. Melissa cares for women in the early teen years through menopause. Her passion is for providing care throughout pregnancy. She also provides general women's health care, birth control, post-partum care, breastfeeding assistance and circumcisions.
