NICU

The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.

The tiniest patients at HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast are cared for in our Level II and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Our 14-bed NICU is equipped with the advanced technology needed to care for all babies who need extra care due to conditions, such as prematurity, respiratory problems, infectious diseases or nutritional deficits.

While your newborn is in our care, we work closely with you to develop an effective treatment plan, including life support courses to prepare you for your baby's arrival home.

NICU care we offer

When your baby needs to stay in the NICU, it can be a difficult time for you and your family. While some newborns stay in the NICU for only a few hours of observation, others may spend weeks receiving specialized care.

The tiniest patients at HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast are cared for in our 14-bed Level II and Level III NICUs. We are equipped with the advanced technology needed to care for all babies who need extra care due to conditions such as prematurity, respiratory problems, infectious diseases or nutritional deficits.

  • Neonatal transport team
  • Parental education
  • Skin-to-skin care

Our family-centered approach to care means unlimited visitation for parents and grandparents. We invite you to visit as often as possible, and to hold, touch, feed, care for and talk to your baby as frequently as their condition allows. Mothers are encouraged to hold their baby skin-to-skin, which has been shown to facilitate growth and development. You can consult with our certified lactation specialist about pumping or breastfeeding your baby while in the NICU.
